"THE U.S. IS PREPARING FOR WAR WITH CHINA"
— WORLD AT WAR (@World_At_War_6) January 7, 2026
Former NATO general and retired French military officer Michel Yakovleff reportedly stated that if U.S. President Donald Trump attempts to annex Greenland, Europeans must be prepared to defend it, potentially even through military confrontation.
This statement is one of the strangest I have heard in a long time.
I don't think Officer Michel Yakovleff understands the time period we are in.
It is highly likely that within 18-24 months the U.S. will be facing a conflict with China.
Control over Greenland ensures dominance over the GIUK Gap, a strategic maritime gateway that Russian naval vessels and submarines must pass through to reach the Atlantic Ocean.
The U.S. has expressed concern that Denmark is not spending enough to safeguard the territory's security.
The island also contains some of the world's largest deposits of rare earth elements essential for high-tech sectors, EVs, and defense technology currently dominated by China.
For the U.S, it is about gaining control of important infrastructure and securing important raw materials needed in the event of war, when American industry will be in full swing.
This means that Venezuela, Cuba, Greenland and Iran will have to pay the price for what is to come.

Trump wants to acquire Greenland to secure the Western hemisphere…

It’s position in the northern Atlantic would help secure the arctic, acting opposite Alaska in the northern Pacific.

☝️ The United States' plans to annex Greenland may only surprise at first glance and lead to the mistaken belief that these are merely extravagant remarks by President Trump. In fact, the U.S. had such plans as early as the 1860s, when the administration considered annexing Greenland and Iceland, but the idea lacked congressional support at the time. In 1910, a trilateral deal was prepared to exchange territories between the U.S., Germany, and Denmark, which would have granted Greenland to the United States, but the agreement ultimately fell through. During World War II, the U.S. established military bases in Greenland, and after the war, it offered to purchase the island from Denmark. In summary, the United States has serious plans regarding Greenland. These plans have deep historical roots, and the U.S. will continue to systematically advance its geopolitical, military-political, and economic interests in the Arctic - President Putin pic.twitter.com/lsS99Map3H
