When the war began from Tunisia, over to Libya, Egypt, Yemen, the main target was to guarantee the energy security, become independent of Russia, by building petrol and gas pipelines from Arabia, across Jordan, Syria and Turkey to Europe.
Syria made the "mistake" to reject the according offer and instead signing a pipeline contract with Iran and Iraq. But by the Iranian-Iraqi pipeline the petrol sheikhs and the US petrodollar system would have crumbled.
Therefore the assault on Syria by imperial mercenary troops, promoted as "Islamists" was quasi "without an alternative".
How the self declared global empire is using geophysical warfare, "colored revolution" and asymmetrical methods of warfare with mercenaries framed as "freedom fighters" in regions, where it cannot invade with regular troops, without openly breaking international law should be delved in another article. Now, as we all realize, Syria, Iraq, Iran and Russia have destroyed all plans of the attackers, except the vast area the Kurds got under control by the support of USA and the EU countries. Although this construction is patchy, because of the wedge cut by Turkey and also not reaching to the Mediterranean Sea, the USA want to give it a state-like status, similar to Kosovo. With the formation of Kurdistan, the Arabs will be separated from the north by land roads. Who gets control on Kurdistan dominates the whole region. The mountainous Kurdistan is a geopolitical pivotal hub.

The USA cannot give up Kurdistan, as long as a little hope remains to keep it, because this chunk of mountainous resources rich territory is the only win of the operation on Syria and Iraq for now. The reaction of USA on any threatening approach is accordingly fierce. The Turkish Security Forces (TSF) get a taste of carnage, that may await them in Menbij or any other part of the territory under the control of SDF (Syrian Defense Forces) by observing the deadly attack on Syrian Army troops by the US forces in Raqqa. The parlous factor for the TSF is, that its weapons are mainly from military industry of USA and EU and 2. or 3. quality and deadly inferior compared to the US artillery, drones, rockets, helicopters and fighter jets.

The morbid strategy game of the USA could trigger Turkey's exit from NATO, which would make NATO practically useless. The geographical location of Turkey, with sea gates and water reservoirs makes this country indispensable for any geostrategy between the 3 continents. The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) would accept Turkey, after leaving NATO, with the greatest pleasure.
Although the threat by an expansive Soviet Union doesn't exist any more, Turkey will stay in NATO to prevent NATO decisions against its own interests and push own goals by using the NATO.
2. What is the intention of Russia?
Russia has a very important international contract with the Republic of Turkey, namely the "Montreux Convention Regarding the Regime of the Straits" from 1936.

Together with the Treaty of Lousanne, these two contracts legitimize the existence of the Republic of Turkey as the legal successor of the Ottoman Empire.

Different from the other losers of 1. world war, this republic is one of the few states which are, at least judicially, sovereign. This sovereignty have been wrested from the victors of WWI by the people, together with the state founders, defeating the enemies by a war of liberation.
As the Republic of Turkey initially cultivated a bonding with the Soviet Union and remained neutral during the 2. world war, no additional burden was on-loaded. This insight should particularly be regarded by people, who research about the legal status of reunited Germany and all other EU member "states", which all shouldn't to be named states any more. The frame of German defeat has become the European Union.
The contract about the water straits regulates the free sailing of Black Sea abutters across the Dardanelles, Sea of Marmara and the Bosporus as well es the limitation of access for all non-abutters of the Black Sea. Turkey is obligated to abide to the rules, which secures peace in the region. If Turkey would break this contract and e.g. reject free sailing for Russia, automatically the conditions for war would have been established.
The Achilles heel of Turkey's economy is in Istanbul and the territory around it. The blockade of the strait would result in total breakdown of all economic activity in Turkey and de-legitimize the statehood of the Republic. A conflict with Russia is not in the geopolitical, economic and military interest of Turkey and is not militarily enforceable. In opposite, any narrow cooperation with Russia is in any interest of Turkey. This is very apparent by the buildup of Turkstream-Pipeline and the acquisition of Russian S-400 airspace defense system.
The prosperity of the Republic of Turkey and adherence to the common contracts and treaties is of existential importance for Russia. Regardless of ruling people and dominant ideology in Ankara, everything runs well, as long as Montreux Convention and all other bilateral contracts with Turkey are not damaged.
3. What is the intention of Turkey?
For Turkey it is only about damage containment and securing own borders and its mere existence. Eventually Turkey will have to force the Kurds to totally submit themselves to the Syrian statehood. After securing the border region, Turkey will become able to expel the Syrian refugees back to Syria. This will also be in the interest of EU. It is more than clear that Syria and Russia will concede to the Afrin operation of Turkey.
Although the president of Turkey is behaving authoritarian, swanky threatening, even mobilizing his army, for the state apparatus it is about the naked survival of the Republic of Turkey.
The people elect the dictatorship, because fearing the brake-down of the country, if it is not clung together by power. Whatever You would like to imagine to keep the Erdogan bashing alive, it is not about the the person Mr. Erdogan, but about having a strongman who is able to prevent the rupture of the country.
Turkey is standing in front of the worst abyss in its history, because also Turkey has to be teared apart like Syria, according the framework of the Project for a Greater Middle East (PfGME). Only an elected dictator can avoid this and a bloody civil war.

As paradox as it may sound, until the coup against Mohammad Mursi by general Sisi in Egypt, Mr. Erdogan was a openly self declared co-leader of the PfGME. After the fall of Mursi and persecution of Muslim Brotherhood, it became clear, that he was the last muslim-brother to be toppled!

The question must arise, in addition to the 4 tanker jets of the coupsters, where only 3 were used, if also the German tanker jet was involved and if the fighter jets were navigated by the German technicians at the airbase! Evaluating the comparably "friendly" eviction of the German forces out of Incirlik Airbase, a part guilt must have been assumed. As the elected government survived this coup, which is unique in the history of Turkey, and an expected second attempt could be prevented successfully, the people of Turkey expect a much greater attempt of rupture, e.g. based on ethnic division in Kurds, Turks and Arabs or religious division in Alawites, Sunnis etc..
Considering the official declaration of the USA about the formation of 30.000 strong "border protection army" and the massive armament of this unit, including the air defense rockets, tankers and the buildup of statehood administration structures, supported by Europeans, the Republic of Turkey has to fear the loss of a bigger chuck of its own territory to this new entity.

What makes the Turkish part of Kurdistan geopolitically more valuable are its water resources. Kurdistan is for Turkey and other neighbors similar to Himalaya for China, Pakistan and India. Water is much more worthy than oil in the Middle East. Turkey is producing a big share of electricity for its industry and people and also food by using the huge water dams in the mountains of Kurdistan.
Turkey is binding the Terrorists in northern Syria for own interest, that the Syrian Army can clean up in other centers.
For Turkey it becomes tough in Syria. Look, these are the only allies die Turkey needs to depend on.
4. What are the consequences for Europe?
The Europeans don't depend on Petrodollar.
They don't need to care about, if the fuel is transported by Russian, Turkish, Iraqi-Iranian, Algerian or any other pipeline to Europe.
These deliverers are all ready to sell all their products in Euros, without any involvement of the Dollar. Hence, the war in the Middle East is not in the interest of EU.
In contrast the USA urgently need to weaken Russia, Iran and China and keeping and extending the total dependency of EU and the Gulf-Arabs, to remain the main imperial center. Or from the imperial perspective, the empire cannot leave the USA and define a better global center for itself. Consider that none of the mentioned pipelines can reach the USA!
Factually the whole imperial strategy to cling on power, since the declaration of the War on Terror in 2001, has failed by missing success in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya etc..

The Europeans have to reflect the sense in destroying Turkey, similar to Syria and force the population into a civil war and seek refuge in Europe. Are the Europeans ready for about 20 million or more refugees from Turkey and also to import the civil war?

The population of Turkey, including the Kurds, is not ready to destroy the Republic of Turkey for a state of Kurdistan at the south-east. More Kurds live in other parts of Turkey than in the region of Kurdistan. All people in Turkey are mixed, married and friended across the lines of language and religious confession. Centuries old connections from the Ottoman Empire and the era of the Republic bind all the people to their common state.
The Germans and Europeans should not persecute in Hollywood frame Mr. Erdogan as the next declared bad guy, but calculate based on facts, statehood, geopolitics and own interests.
Turkey needs the cooperation with the EU, but because of some adhesion contracts with NATO and EU it has not yet displayed its full geopolitical clout. With the growing weakness of the EU and USA and their obvious actions to damage the interests of Republic of Turkey, even attempting to eliminate its existence as a state, compel Turkey to realize and develop own military, economic and cooperative alternatives, which are unequally bigger than of all EU member states.
For now the government of Turkey follows the optimal way between the constraining borders. Meanwhile the house of cards of NATO and EU is noticeably shaking.

5. What about the Kurds?
The Kurds did not start the war. The brave defense of their territory against the ISIS brings them honor and glory, which they should amortize in cooperation with Syria, Iraq, Turkey, Iran and Russia.
Neither the USA, nor the Gulf-Arabs, the Israelis or the Europeans will engage in an open war against Turkey, Russia, Iran, Syria and Iraq to force the separation of Kurdistan. The so called "Islamists", mercenary troops of the Imperial Complex have submitted themselves under the dictate of the government of Turkey and are now destroying the last patches of the imperial scheme. The war on resources has already cost too much and cannot be continued in hope of some profits. The imperial battleship has been shredded at the granite rock of Syria.
The small Syria has proven itself as one of the most powerful states of this world, where many empires had to bow. The US based empire is failing whenever it tries to regime change in Syria. It failed in 1956, 1957, 1983, 2001, and now.

Without having coast at an open sea, no state can really be sovereign, because without open seas all international airspace is closed. The USA cannot supply an encircled Kurdistan even not by airspace and and exploit the Kurdish oil and gas directly.
Instead of being burned as a toy of imperial strategists, the Kurds need to fully cooperate with the Syrian government, liberate and secure the country. The imperial powers need to be dropped before being dropped by imperial will and necessity.
That a united Kurdistan didn't and doesn't exist, is the consequence of the geography and tribal society of the Kurds, not the guilt of the neighboring states. In times of desperation and hardship, the joined their powers with the other people and purged the danger!
Any time a new Salahuddin Ayyubi (Saladin) can lead the liberation. This character is still part of the Kurdish and Syrian culture.
The populist Nationalism rarely functions globally, in the Middle East it is totally misplaced. Kurds cannot be bordered within a closed territory, because they live everywhere in the Middle East and highly geared and mixed with other communities of the region. The bonding of the identity with a language is not bright idea.
6. What is the intention of Israel?
The masterpiece of Zionist strategists is their recognition of the geostrategic importance of Kurdistan. In an alliance with Kurdistan, they promise themselves the long term survival of their own entity. Finally also Israel needs to secure the supply of energy fuel and foremost of water, to become a fully grown state.
Israel occupies since 1967 the Golan Heights, in addition to military needs, to guarantee its own water supply. The role of the Golan Heights is fulfilled by Kurdistan for the whole region! This should show every observer the meaning of Kurdistan for the Zionist expansion strategy. Kurdistan will build only the launch pad for a much wider escalation of economic and military war!
The liquidation of the Republic of Syria could have solved the question about the Golan Heights in favor of Israel. Although this daydream has been disploded, Mr. Netanyahu could not stop to openly pronounce it. In his desperation he asked Mr. Trump, who is the wrong contact, as he is not the owner of the land. Syria will take its territory in middle or long term!

Factually all Zionist decades-strategies have failed. However, the Zionist society in Israel, the USA and elsewhere seems to be unable to disempower and replace the failed leadership of and around Netanyahu. The administration and the people are in a status without ideas, escape and alternatives. There is no other strategy and no political party outside of the Zionist soup. As if they gambled on one card and lost and now would stand with their back at the wall.
This WALL has a name, it is Hezbollah. This small feared opponent has proven its potency in Syria and multiplied itself by that, observing its manpower, equipment and technical sophistication. Hezbollah existed only in South-Lebanon, now it is in Syria, Iraq and Yemen.

If Turkey would break this contract and e.g. reject free sailing for Russia, automatically the conditions for war would have been established.
The Achilles heel of Turkey's economy is in Istanbul and the territory around it. The blockade of the strait would result in total breakdown of all economic activity in Turkey and de-legitimize the statehood of the Republic. A conflict with Russia is not in the geopolitical, economic and military interest of Turkey and is not militarily enforceable. In opposite, any narrow cooperation with Russia is in any interest of Turkey. This is very apparent by the buildup of Turkstream-Pipeline and the acquisition of Russian S-400 airspace defense system.
The prosperity of the Republic of Turkey and adherence to the common contracts and treaties is of existential importance for Russia. Regardless of ruling people and dominant ideology in Ankara, everything runs well, as long as Montreux Convention and all other bilateral contracts with Turkey are not damaged.
3. What is the intention of Turkey?
For Turkey it is only about damage containment and securing own borders and its mere existence. Eventually Turkey will have to force the Kurds to totally submit themselves to the Syrian statehood. After securing the border region, Turkey will become able to expel the Syrian refugees back to Syria. This will also be in the interest of EU. It is more than clear that Syria and Russia will concede to the Afrin operation of Turkey.
Although the president of Turkey is behaving authoritarian, swanky threatening, even mobilizing his army, for the state apparatus it is about the naked survival of the Republic of Turkey.
The people elect the dictatorship, because fearing the brake-down of the country, if it is not clung together by power. Whatever You would like to imagine to keep the Erdogan bashing alive, it is not about the the person Mr. Erdogan, but about having a strongman who is able to prevent the rupture of the country.
Turkey is standing in front of the worst abyss in its history, because also Turkey has to be teared apart like Syria, according the framework of the Project for a Greater Middle East (PfGME). Only an elected dictator can avoid this and a bloody civil war.

4. What are the consequences for Europe?
The Europeans don't depend on Petrodollar.
They don't need to care about, if the fuel is transported by Russian, Turkish, Iraqi-Iranian, Algerian or any other pipeline to Europe.
These deliverers are all ready to sell all their products in Euros, without any involvement of the Dollar. Hence, the war in the Middle East is not in the interest of EU.
In contrast the USA urgently need to weaken Russia, Iran and China and keeping and extending the total dependency of EU and the Gulf-Arabs, to remain the main imperial center. Or from the imperial perspective, the empire cannot leave the USA and define a better global center for itself. Consider that none of the mentioned pipelines can reach the USA!
Factually the whole imperial strategy to cling on power, since the declaration of the War on Terror in 2001, has failed by missing success in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya etc..

The population of Turkey, including the Kurds, is not ready to destroy the Republic of Turkey for a state of Kurdistan at the south-east. More Kurds live in other parts of Turkey than in the region of Kurdistan. All people in Turkey are mixed, married and friended across the lines of language and religious confession. Centuries old connections from the Ottoman Empire and the era of the Republic bind all the people to their common state.
The Germans and Europeans should not persecute in Hollywood frame Mr. Erdogan as the next declared bad guy, but calculate based on facts, statehood, geopolitics and own interests.
Turkey needs the cooperation with the EU, but because of some adhesion contracts with NATO and EU it has not yet displayed its full geopolitical clout. With the growing weakness of the EU and USA and their obvious actions to damage the interests of Republic of Turkey, even attempting to eliminate its existence as a state, compel Turkey to realize and develop own military, economic and cooperative alternatives, which are unequally bigger than of all EU member states.
